Africa & Middle East

Witness the Great Migration in Tanzania, private camps in the Maasai Mara, enjoy a private safari in Botswana, trek to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda. Petra by lamplight. The Nile raditional dahabiya. The deserts of Oman and the souks of Morocco. A region of remarkable contrasts, where extraordinary landscapes, rich cultures, and unforgettable wildlife create journeys your family will talk about for years.

Africa is the region where I am most particular. I will not place a safari without the right guide, in the right camp, in the right month. The cost of getting that wrong is too high, both in money and in the trip itself.

I work most often in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, and South Africa. I plan multi-country itineraries cautiously, Africa rewards staying still longer than most clients expect. The trips that work best are typically two countries, twelve to fourteen nights, with a pause day in the middle.

The Middle East I take on selectively. Jordan, Oman, and (carefully) Saudi Arabia for the right historical brief. Egypt by river, on a dahabiya, with a Coptic studies guide who knows what's worth slowing down for. These are journeys that inspire wonder and leave lasting memories.

Where we begin

Countries and corners we know best.

  • Kenya, the Mara, Laikipia, the northern conservancies
  • Tanzania, the Serengeti, the Southern Circuit, Zanzibar to end
  • Rwanda, gorilla trekking, in deliberate combinations
  • Botswana, the Delta, Linyanti, the Makgadikgadi
  • South Africa, Cape Town and the Winelands, the Sabi Sand
  • Jordan, Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea
  • Egypt, Cairo briefly, then the Nile by dahabiya
